I figured that I wanted a separate blog for my random writing stuff. It feels wrong to post all that on this blog where I’ve always only blogged, not written. Comics will stay on this blog. And I think most of the story/poem stuff that’s already posted will stay here.

I’m figuring that the new blog will open by the end of this week, at least. Maybe tonight, since I don’t have too much homework.

I wonder what I should name it.

I kind of want to try Blogspot because they seem to have more themes than WordPress, but at the same time I’m familiar with WordPress.

So lately I have been less interested in American stuffs than usual online.

Megan Nicole concert yesterday!

The pre-concert activities were kind of lame.

For about 80% of the concert I was standing in line waiting for food. -___-

Not that I’m really a fan of hers anyways…

It’s too bad they didn’t have more food trucks.

So I don’t remember if I mentioned this before but when I went to Japan town I bought two volumes of Hoshi wa Utau!

Except it hasn’t been translated into English by some American manga publishing company, so they’re in Japanese.

Thank goodness for online scanlators.

Except the ones who suddenly stopped scanlating the ones I read.

Anyways, I made my cousin translate the extra story at the end (he’s in Japanese.)

Sometimes I wonder if I should tell guys I read shonen manga.

Brother is sick again but he sits with me too

As we wait for Papa in our kitchen painted blue

Brother had been very ill before I was born, he told me himself

He seems fine now as he reaches for the cookies on the top shelf

“Papa, Papa” I call as the door opens wide

Brother sets down the cookies and comes to my side

For a second Papa grins and we smile too

But soon his mood reflects the color of the kitchen, blue.

It’s been five months and Brother is still not well

He’ll be in the hospital a long time, as far as my relatives can tell.

I’m with them a lot now, cousins, uncles, and aunts.

They are very loud though they think I can’t hear the taunts.

Some days I don’t see Papa, not at breakfast, not even to say good night

But it’s alright, I’m six now, the monsters under my bed don’t give me so much fright.

Brother comes home some days and we laugh like old times

But tonight I’m eating cookies alone while Mother works part time.

Mother these days flies between the hospital, home, and work

Third grade hasn’t taught me that debts and bills could drive you berserk

It’s funny how one person can supposedly be sent back to health

When many others work themselves to death.

I want to tell Mother how well I did on my science test

But she vapidly sorts out her pills and goes upstairs to rest

Eleven now, I can reach the shelf, I start to put the bottles away, one I see is for anti-depression.

Interesting how now she doesn’t give her secret so much repression

Papa gets up from his chair to go to bed too

But wait, I call, tell me again why our kitchen is painted blue.

He sits down again and tells me the ocean was this color when they used to live be the sea

The three of them lived there before I was born but someday, he promises, he’ll bring me to see

Unlike Mother, Brother’s tears never fall, but I know he’s crying

Are you scared, I once asked, at the prospect of dying?

Not so much, he told me, I’ve been here so long I’m tired of grieving

But still somehow I’m frightened of the prospect of leaving.

I’m scared, I exclaimed all of a sudden, of seeing you go

Everyday I visit you here I don’t want to leave with more woe

You remember me, and that I’m here, right? I desperately asked

He gave a weak nod before the nurse ushered me out at last

In June one day I was at my desk, the house was silent except for me

Papa’s car was suddenly in the driveway and I ran downstairs before he got out his key

Come, he told me, I’ll show you how it used to be

We’re going to the beach, we’re going to see the sea.

The water was as blue as in my imagination and the sparkles were bright

The day was so wonderful, but out of the blue I noticed Papa’s hair was turning white

It feels wrong, doesn’t it, I said to him, tears making sight blurry

To be here without Brother and Mother and when there is so much worry

It’s fine, Papa said,  before we forgot I wanted to show you

What it used to be like and why the kitchen is blue

Papa, I asked on the phone the day next, Can you come to the father-daughter brunch?

I’m sorry, I’m busy I’ll miss it only this once, the answer was, You know how work is, such a time crunch.

It’s alright, I can wait another day, month, a year or two.

I’m happy, Papa, that at least I had that moment with you.

SOI has taken up like 3 hours now.

Anyways, I’m going to write as much as the blog post in French as possible for practice. If you really care about what it says, I don’t think my French is bad enough that Google Translate wouldn’t work on it.

C’étais une fois, j’ai voyagé à London. (Je ne sais pas que me faus utilise à ou en. Hm.) Quand-même, quand j’ai été en Camden Market, j’ai acheté une bague pour ma copine Grace. Elle voulait une bague comme la bague de l’engagement de Kate Middleton. Enfin, après j’ai cherché pour une heure, j’ai trouvé dans un magasin.

Quand j’étais dans les États-Unis (ok typing accents is tiring I am going to stop) apres le voyage, j’ai donne la bague a Grace. Et elle a donne a notre copain Joshua. Il l’a mis dans ton doight. I walk into the classroom to see a few people crowding around something. Lo and behold, there was a heater!

It was sitting on top of the overhead.

*whirr*

Mr. Hui: Look! We finally have a heater! *holds it up*
Rachel: Mr. Hui the air coming out of it is cold.
Mr. Hui: *holds up the box* Notice the word heater.
Us: -___-

Mr. Hui: It’s 42 degrees in here…
Us: D:
Mr. Hui: And it’s 46 outside.

Today:

The heater was fixed today! Not the little heater sitting on the overhead that I think went back in the box, but the actual room heater. You know, the one that controls the temperature of the classroom but teachers can’t control.

Us: Mr. Hui! IT’S NOT COLD!
Mr. Hui: Aren’t you happy you don’t have to take your tests in the cold?

The moral behind group projects seems to be: 1) Trust no one! and 2) Rule your group with an iron fist!

Just kidding about the iron first.

… I think our history book said that Bismarck ruled with an iron fist.

Anyhow, I wonder if karma is being involved in these group projects.

Lots of blogs review stuff, and I’m bored, so I will review various things.

Books:

Pale Horse, Pale Rider by Katherine Anne Porter. I think I mentioned one of the short novels in it earlier, “Old Mortality”. The other two, “Noon Wine” and the title story “Pale Horse, Pale Rider” are not bad either. “Noon Wine” is fascinating, and “Pale Horse, Pale Rider” is rather pungent poignant.

“What else besides them did I have in the world? Nothing. Nothing is mine, I have only nothing but it is enough, it is beautiful and it is all mine. Do I even walk about in my own skin or is it something I have borrowed to spare my modesty? Now what horse shall I borrow for this journey I do not mean to take…” (180)

That is not my favorite quote of them all by the way. But it’s nice.

Compared to the other Katherine Anne Porter book in the Library, Flowering Judas and Other Stories, I liked this one a lot better. The only stories I clearly remember still make little sense to me. But my perspective on this book and my new experience on interpreting short stories (Thank you, Mr. Rath) might convince me to read it again.

If you’re sick of short stories and such, then my other suggestion is 1984 by George Orwell. It’s considered a classic, I think, and for good measure. I think you’ll find how much of a good writer Orwell is and how much of that is frightening.

I’m not in the mood of reading newer, contemporary books right now. So sorry if you wanted recommendations on that.

Music:

I have lately started listening to French music, by a certain Coeur de Pirate. She’s from Montreal and she speaks English and French fluently. :O

… You know, I’m not sure if I remember Mr. Gales ever speaking in fluent French. An unrelated thought anyways.

The credit of this artist discovery actually goes to Grace. She introduced me to a song by Coeur de Pirate and I went on to listen to her other songs. I don’t think these help me in French anyways (I can hardly keep up with what she’s singing) and when I looked up a French-English translation the song’s difficulty was hard. Lol. But the music is still nice.

Le gasp. I just found out she did a cover of “Tous les garcons et les filles”. Wow. This song. XD Mr. Gales chose something kind of well-known.

Movies

Um, I’m not exactly sure what to recommend. I though the first Sherlock Holmes movie wasn’t too bad. I mean I couldn’t hear half of it because if terrible airplane headphones, but still. Witty stuffs.

Also as to what NOT to watch: I really didn’t like Crazy, Stupid, Love. Or was it Stupid, Crazy, Love? Ok it’s Crazy, Stupid, Love. I just looked it up to check. Anyhow, I don’t get the point of that movie.

I think the themes of the movie are: “It’s a small world”. Or “People have trouble making decisions.” Or “Teenagers these days are really creepy.” Or “Don’t sleep with psychotic 8th-grade teachers.” Or “Sappy, cheesy lines will get you places.”

And this movie is also not my preferred kind of comedy, or romance, which probably accounts for my dislike and boredom of this romantic comedy.

Next up is the “Shtuff” that is mentioned in the title. I feel like Marius whenever I come up with pretty words to write when I’m on a walk. Lol.

It’s been months since I’ve seen you.

My gaze inadvertently turned to you. And you smiled in a way I hadn’t known I had missed.

I’m aware of our situation but the thought of this fortuitous meeting makes me  a tiny bit euphoric inside.

I wonder if the moon and sun ever have these thoughts during an eclipse.

As I was walking, the setting sky seemed different, though I’ve ambled underneath it so many times. The sky wasn’t a brilliant red and orange, and neither was it a stunning gradient of blue. The various sunset colors were muted and soft. I found it lovely all the same.

But tonight, the evening didn’t have to be enchanting; you had made it so.

Well the odd bits of stress that have been accumulating in the clogs of my brain here and there are now starting to give me a headache. I’m going to sleep.

- Jet lag, yippee. I woke up at 2 am, but fell back asleep listening to music.

- I ended up having a weird dream where my iTouch had problems pausing songs, but I couldn’t take the earphones out of my ears until the song had paused. ._________.

- Woke up at 4, sweltering because there was no water to drink (wasn’t desperate enough for tap water) and because the room was really warm. [We hadn't learned to use the fan just yet.]

- Random, but I like the concept of the bathroom doors.

- Internet isn’t great at the hotel. I think actual computers and laptops take dominance of guest Internet. [Hence the fact that I didn't post while I was there. Sorry.]

- There’s a sign language translator on TV. o.o

- During breakfast Janet made a pyramid of empty fruit cups.

- Kristina and China apparently got prank wake-up calls.

- It seems we’re often waiting for our chaperone, Ms. Kraft.

“GET IN YOUR CHAPERONE GROUPS!”

“Hey, have you guys seen Kraft?”

“I think she went to the bathroom”/”I think she’s still eating breakfast.”

- Ketchup, mustard, mayo, and HP sauce come in jars! Not packets or bottles.

- Janet and I got on the wrong bus -.- Medha and Ritika and Shuai saved us seats on the other bus.

- Anne Hathaway’s cottage the most romantic? Pfft. Shakespeare allegedly married her because she was already pregnant, he had a mistress in his sonnets, and if I remember right, he only left her his second best bed in his will (She died before him, anyhow.)

- Twas colder than expected. Must adjust to London temperatures. I like the weather though.

- The Twentieth century Romeo and Juliet scenes the tour showed us were weird(er than the one we saw in Waller and/or the play itself.)

- Other than that, Shakespeare’s birthplace was cool.

- Stratford-upon-Avon as a town is delightful too. [Pardon the awkward adjective; I didn't want to use "cool" too many times, and "delightful" sounds British.] Janet, Aditi, Ishita, Ritika, Medha, Shuai, Willie, and I wandered around.

- The book store was having a SALE! There are a bunch of gift stores. We bought drinks from this food store. Yup. Magic Alley is slightly a Harry Potter knock-off, but Harry Potter after all, is still somewhat based in magic and witchcraft. I thought the store was really cool. They have some nice bottles of Eye of Newt.

Wands!

-We ate lunch (after much indecision) at a really cute cafe. The lady running it was so nice, and she made the mini pizzas fresh.

- Warwick Castle!

- Included armor, old-fashioned rooms, a bit of Shakespeare’s Secret tour, wax Henry VIII and wives. [I keep wanting to call them Henry VIII and co.]

- Dungeons!

We didn't have to pay (it was included in our tickets) but still... Hum.

- LOL this was so fun. The actors/actresses were really powerful. Poor Aditi. At first we were so scared; “HARRISON GO FIRST.” Willie’s also a wimp. Jerry got tortured, I think Albert was in the cage, Ritika got chopped up, and Gavin was beheaded. The mirrors part was confusing.

- Hard Rock Cafe! There was a lot of memorabilia hanging on the walls. And we ate food!

- We got our Oyster cards. Tube riding was a bit hectic. ["Quick! We need to cram 50 (I honestly don't know how many people are on this trip) people all on one train at the same time and not lose anyone!" Which didn't happen. ]

- Good night.
